“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” -Ephesians 2:10
What inspires you? What sets your heart aflame? There are a few things that I thought did it for me… Reading a good book, nature, and a well written poem or song. I thought that those things would encourage my fingers to fly to the keyboard and write something that makes me proud or hopefully inspires someone else.

But guess what! I often get stuck on my phone or in front of the tv instead of actually doing the things that help me reach my goals. I will tell myself that I am tired from work and life, that there is always tomorrow but the truth is the only time we are guaranteed is this moment right now. I don’t want to look back on my life and think if only I had pushed myself a little harder or believed that I deserved to go for it head on.
I have found myself many times searching for inspiration for so long that I run out of time to actually create. I wonder how many times Michelangelo or Picasso created something of their own that they were not pleased with but it helped them get to the next step of creating a masterpiece. Do you ever wonder where you would be in life if you had not watched Netflix for so long or scrolled on your phone looking at things that really bring you little to no joy? Because I do. I have many times sat down to write and instead of writing found myself on my phone, telling myself that in just a few more seconds I will begin to write. The things that occupy our time like tv shows, Facebook, and Instagram are stories and images of other people living their life. What kind of life would we actually being living if we stopped scrolling and started doing? I wonder how many books I could have writing finished if I hadn’t scrolled for a mile that day on a little device that seems to hold the world beneath its screen.
I realize now that what truly inspires me and sets my fingers to fly across the keyboard is when I make the choice to make my dreams a priority and a goal, not just something I hope for. When I turn off the music, shut off the outside world, and just begin… Not because I am ready or I have much to say yet but because the only way to get to your destination is by taking the steps yourself. I want to know when I take my last breath that I did all I could with the gifts God gave me and didn’t waste them on things that were of little to no importance.
I am going to challenge myself for the next few months and I hope this will help you to challenge yourself as well to reach your goals and dreams, that you thought might only ever be daydreams, by putting down my phone, turning off the tv, and choosing to start right now. The best person to believe in your goals is yourself and the best time to start is right now. Your dreams are worth something, I hope you can choose them over the voices of the world.
I have listed a few scriptures below that have helped me to push through the writers block, the lazy days, and the I just don’t want to do it days because they remind me that every talent and gift I have is from the Lord. Who are we to not use the gifts that God created and gave to us? Each of us have such a special talent and gift to offer to the world, let’s not miss out.

- “And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.” -Exodus 31:3-5 — The special talents you have and the things you are good at come from God filling you with these skills… There is no one created like you!
- “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” -Ephesians 2:10 — He prepared our gifts in advance! How cool!
- “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” -1 Peter 4:10-11 — You were given your dreams and talents for a reason. Let God be the glory!
I hope you are feeling encouraged to start right now with whatever dream God has placed in your heart and mind. I can do it, you can do, we can do it!
